Neurophysiatric Area

Head: Sandra Strazzer
Secretariat: Raffaella Cambiaso, Cristina Gerosa, Lidia Riva

The Neurophysiatric Area deals with clinical diagnosis, functional diagnosis, rehabilitation pathways and rehabilitation of adaptive functions in children and young people with neuromotor, cognitive and sensory disabilities of both congenital and acquired origin.
The clinical evaluation is based on the expertise of doctors specialized in all the areas related to the overall clinical context of the children. Rehabilitation programs take advantage of rehabilitation professionals that provide specialized or integrated processes according to the specific needs of the patient. The rehabilitation programs benefit from traditional or innovative methods, sometimes related to specific scientific research paths.
The evaluation and rehabilitation program can take place in inpatient admission, Day Hospital (DH) or in an outpatient intensive program called "Macroattività Ambulatoriale Complessa" (MAC).
The Neurophysiatric Area obtained the ISO 9001certification from the certifying agency DNV-GL.

The Area is composed of the following Specialized Rehabilitation Units:

Development of telemedicine services
Head: Paola Colombo

Through a wide range of clinical services the Area of Developmental Psychopathology deals with diagnostic needs, clinical treatment, setting and supervision of rehabilitaton programs. The services are aimed at children with neurodevelopmental and neuropsychic diseases, especially from early childhood to pre-adolescence.

Its services are organized into:

  • outpatient activity, performed mainly through the Neuropsychiatric and adolescence center, which owns a range of organizational units and specialized follow up ambulatories;
  • outpatient intensive rehabilitation programs (Macro Attività Ambulatoriale Complessa - MAC), involved in clinical evaluation, technological innovation and setting of the rehabilitation pathway immediately after the diagnosis.

The Psychopathology Area is structured into two specific residential facilities: a hospital facility, fully devoted to the assessment and the rehabilitation especially in the very early stages of development, and an outpatient activity, for neurodevelopment disorders when they are complicated by intellectual development and adaptation disabilities, or under conditions of particular fragility.
Common features of the different services of this Area are both an ongoing focus on innovation - in the treatment process, the intervention models and the longitudinal study of developmental trajectories and outcomes - and the collaboration in research activities - in particular through observational studies, including multicenter studies, and participation in clinical trials, including experimental ones.
